5 Tips for Autumn Season

5 Tips for Autumn Season
23 October 2022 by SilviaHealing

Autumn has come after a beautiful summer in its full glory. The landscape is transforming day-
by-day from lash greens into rich golds, oranges, reds, and browns reminding us of time of
fruition, harvest and letting go. What are the things that we can choose to let go of and what
are the things we should do to make this change more acceptable?

1. Wear more rather than less.
The temperature is dropping down and we might put our summer clothes on habitually and
then be surprised by catching a cold. When wearing clothes in autumn more is better than less.
We can always take off that extra jacket or a sweater but if we wear less and it is colder than
expected we cannot magic a coat or a jumper.

2. Drink plenty of water and moisturize your skin frequently.

Colder weather tends to dry our skin and we may feel discouraged from drinking water which leads to further dehydration. Even though we drink plenty of tea and coffee, most of these beverages are dehydrating so it is good to remember to still drink plenty of water. It provides hydration as well as helping to flush toxins out of our bodies.

3. Get enough sleep and boost your energy levels.
As the rhythm of nature slows down, we may feel more tired, and our anxiety levels may
increase partly due to less sunlight that we are receiving. Let us make sure that we are receiving
enough sleep, ideally 7-8 hours a day. We should aim to go to bed earlier and get up earlier to
adjust to the natural rhythms. Some sources suggest taking Vitamin D supplements to eliminate
the effects of colder weather and in the case of anxiety Magnesium can help with boosting
energy and reducing tension.

4. Eat plenty of local seasonal foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

The harvest season provides us with plenty of healthy food choices and eating local seasonal foods provides us with more energy and nutrients that can support our immune system than any tropical fruits and veggies or processed food. Apples, pears, plums, chestnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pumpkin, squash, carrot, beetroot, kale, and dark greens are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

5. Stay active and spend some time outdoors.
Some of us may want to move less, going outdoors in gloomy weather might be a challenge as well. It is a promising idea to take up some yoga classes, Tai’ chi classes, join local walking groups or similar activities that can boost our immunity, energy levels and sense of well-being.
